Fried Fish with Tartar Sauce

Recipe Description: 

Break from the chicken-cycle with this classic fish dish joh sab shauk say khatay hain

Recipe Ingredients: 

  • Beckti Fish 4 fillets
  • Plain flour 1 cup
  • Rice flour 1 + 1/4 cup
  • Baking powder 1 tbsp
  • Fresh black pepper 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Soda water chilled 1 can
  • Egg 1

For the tartar sauce

  • Mayonnaise 1 cup
  • Dill fresh chopped 1/2 tsp.
  • Capers 5 to 6 chopped
  • Hot sauce 1 tsp.
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Mustard 1 tbsp.
  • Gherkins 2 tsps. chopped

Recipe Method: 

  • Dry fish fillets well.
  • In a bowl whisk the flour, baking powder, salt and pepper together.
  • Coat the fillets with the extra rice flour making sure to dust of any excess flour.
  • Heat oil in a wok, and deep fry the fish.
  • Whisk the flour mixture along with the egg and soda to form a smooth batter.
  • Dip the fish in the batter and then into the hot oil, make sure to swirl it around once after adding to the oil. Remove on paper towels.
  • Serve with lemon wedges, tartar sauce and malt vinegar.

Method Of Tartar Sauce:

  • Whisk all ingredients together, store in the fridge for an hour before serving.
