Top 5 back to school lunch ideas to pack for your kids
If we are looking to treat our kids with healthy food to eat, it usually ends up putting them off. To grab their attention, we are left with oily fried-junk food, which is low in nutritional value and harmful. So, skip the age old jelly-on-top sandwiches and nuggets and prepare some healthy lunch box surprises for your kids.
1- No-Bake Granola Bars
You require
- Kids favourite cereal 1 cup
- Ground oats 2tbsp
- Nuts and raisins 2tbsp
- Peanut butter 3tbsp
- Chocolate syrup 1tbsp
- Vanilla essence
Method
- Pour peanut butter, chocolate syrup and vanilla essence in a non stick pan and heat until warm. (Do not boil)
- Combine cereal, oats, nuts and raisins in a bowl
- Pour the warm peanut butter mixture in the cereal mix
- Spread the mixture on a baking dish
- Refrigerate for 24 hours
- Cut into bars and sprinkle chocolate chips.
2-Tutti Fruity Jelly Cups

All you need is:
- Kids’ favourite jelly flavor 1 packet.
- Sweetened strawberries 1 cup
- Crushed pineapple 1 cup
- Mashed bananas 1 cup
- Lemon juice ¼ cup
Method
- Add instant jelly mix in 200ml of water in a pan and bring it to a boil until dissolved
- Let the jelly mixture cool and mix fruits and lemon juice
- Pour the mixture in plastic cups and refrigerate them for 24 hours
3-Apple Twist
This is a 3 ingredient treat!
- Apple slices/wedges
- Lemon juice
- Crunchy peanut butter
Method
- Sprinkle lemon juice on thinly cut apple slices to stop them from turning brown
- Spread peanut butter on the apple slices, especially along the inner edge
4-Pizza Bread Rolls
All you need is:
- Leftover shredded chicken (1 cup)
- Mozzarella Cheese
- Pizza sauce
- Rolled bread slices as required ( sides cut)
- Mushrooms and green veggies for a healthy twist
Method
- Mix chicken, mushroom and green veggies in a bowl
- Spread pizza sauce on bread slices and layer the above mixture on top
- Sprinkle mozzarella cheese
- Garnish with crushed oregano
- Roll the bread slices on the baking pan and brush it with oil/butter
- Bake it until golden brown
5- Chapatti Wraps
You need:
- Leftover roti/ chapatti
- Salad leaves. (1 per chapatti)
- Sweet corn ½ cup
- Cream cheese.
- Chicken pepperoni ( 2 slices per wrap)
- Oregano for garnishing.
Method
- Spread cream cheese on chapatti with chicken pepperoni on top
- Sprinkle sweet corn and layer salad leaves
- Garnish with oregano and wrap the chapatti in a roll
